This recorded webinar features a fireside chat-style conversation with Dr. Robert Scharpf (Delfi Diagnostics) and Dr. Christie Bergerson (Exponent). Drs. Scharpf and Bergerson discuss how machine learning and artificial intelligence are impacting biomedical engineering and the wider world of human health.

Dr. Robert Scharpf is an Associate Professor of Oncology and Biostatistics at Johns Hopkins University,  co-founder of Delfi Diagnostics, and Head of Data Sciences at Delfi Diagnostics.   Dr. Scharpf's methodologic interests include Bayesian hierarchical models, machine learning approaches for prediction, and multi-study inference from high-throughput platforms in cancer genomics.  Applications of these approaches include the use of liquid biopsies for the early detection of cancer.

Dr. Christie Bergerson has a wide range of expertise including in vitro diagnostics, artificial intelligence in health care, and orthopedic medical devices. As part of her experience in the medical device industry, Dr. Bergerson has designed, developed and implemented various sensing technologies and barcode readers using machine vision/computer learning algorithms for in vitro diagnostic and medical device applications which were ultimately cleared by the FDA, received a CE mark and were marketed worldwide. Dr. Bergerson has experience preparing applications and performing gap analyses for FDA, WHO and IVDR submissions.

Mr. Rich Bendis is the Founder, President and CEO of BioHealth Innovation, Inc. He is a successful entrepreneur, corporate executive, angel investor, investment banker, innovation and technology-based economic development leader, international speaker and consultant in the technology and healthcare industries. He also serves as the founding President and CEO of Innovation America, a national public-private partnership focused on accelerating the growth of innovation economy in America.
